In 1910, Isaak Fernandes started the business when he opened a small novelty store in Paramaribo. The company did well and steadily grew and diversified but took off after Jule, Isaak’s only son, acquired the Coca-Cola Franchise in 1938. With this milestone the company started its successful journey and rapidly expanded into other sectors of the economy. All this came about under the inspiring leadership of Jule Fernandes. To this date FernandesGroup is one of the largest privately owned companies in Suriname and plays a leading role in many sectors of the Surinamese economy.

Through our distribution company we represent international brands such as Enfamil, Grace, Albert Heijn, El Dorado Rum, Freixenet, Fernandes Gouda Cheese, as well as Agio. Local brands include Interfood and Sishado.
We are also active in the hardware- and home improvement division, with brands such as Makita, Reginox and Astra.
In 2014, FernandesGroup started the Fernandes Guyana Enterprise in order to export Bakery and Ice Cream products to Guyana. In 2019, Fernandes Guyana Enterprise acquired a leading interest in DemBake, a Guyanese bakery.
Recently, FernandesGroup entered two new industries: The Mining and Construction Industry, and the Agriculture Industry.
These industries are serviced by FD Equipment & Services, the authorized dealer of Komatsu. FD Equipment & Services furthermore distributes Eaton, Manitou, Atlas Copco, Lucas Oil, Honda power equipment, Solis tractors, Baldan and Shaktiman.
